Celebrating 10 years with 10 Lessons

Reader

What if productivity didn’t need to be something you push through or prove yourself with?

After ten years of coaching, creating, caregiving, building a business, and having thousands of conversations with people trying to do life well, here’s what I know for sure: productivity works best when it’s personal, compassionate, and grounded in reality.

If you want support that actually fits, consider these ten reminders:

  • Productivity is personal, not universal.
  • Fluctuating energy is normal. Plan for it.
  • Good enough beats perfect.
  • Decluttering is a whole-life practice, not just a closet project.
  • Rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement.
  • Joy fuels productivity and primes your energy.
  • Shame is the worst motivator. Compassion works better.
  • Systems don’t need to be complicated to be effective.
  • Let the season you’re in guide your choices.
  • Start where you are, and grow as you go.

If you’ve been feeling tired, behind, or like you’re trying to force yourself into systems that don’t fit, I hope they offer reassurance and encouragement to try things a different way.

I came up with this list as a way to celebrate a decade of Positively Productive Systems and shared this list and the stories behind them in this week's podcast episode:

I’m Lisa Zawrotny, a Productivity Coach, host of the Positively Living® Podcast, and founder of Positively Productive Systems, on a mission to redefine productivity with compassion. I help overwhelmed clients ditch hustle culture and design shame-free, personalized systems that lead to sustainable success—without burnout or sacrificing what they love. I believe productivity is meant to support a more satisfying, joy-filled life. For me, that means road-tripping with my husband and teens, making music with my family and friends, and inspiring others with my voice. One of my favorite ways to recharge is curling up with a book, an iced coffee, and a cat on my lap. ------------------------------------------- Check out the resources I offer below and request my Toolkit to reduce overwhelm, boost energy, and align your actions with your values!

Reader This one is for the daughters: If you are one, read on. If you aren't, send this to a daughter you know...You've probably never stopped to count what you actually do as a daughter. Not just the phone calls and the appointments and the logistics, but the emotional temperature-reading, the anticipating, the quietly absorbing stress that doesn't belong to you, and the ongoing negotiation between who your family needs you to be and who you actually are. That's daughtering. And most of us...

Reader My guess is you care deeply about being your best at home AND at work. It's not just a goal, it’s a core part of who you are. (And that makes us kindred spirits.) You’ve already done a lot of “the work.” Maybe you’ve listened to parenting podcasts in-between meetings, squeezed in leadership webinars or therapy appointments during lunch breaks, tried to optimize your schedule, or stayed up late searching for answers on how to be healthier and feel less stressed. And maybe by now you’ve...

Reader Have you ever sat down to work on something and looked up an hour later wondering where the time went...and why you still aren't done? It happens to most of us, and it's rarely a focus problem or discipline problem. There is a reason we don't think about that may be the secret to shifting your time management approach. And once you understand it, you have a practical tool to use to your benefit. It's called "Parkinson's Law" (not really a law) and it states that work tends to expand to...
