Three simple, yet profound questions to ask yourself before the year ends.

As a productivity coach, I'm constantly exploring new ways to help my clients achieve their goals and unlock their full potential, whether it’s working with me or not. I know what it’s like to have limited resources and to need to make a change, so it’s part of my mission to provide accessible packages and lots of free resources.

This time of year isn't only a season for celebrating, it's one of reflection and planning, and the art of self-coaching can be incredibly helpful for doing that!

I recently had the chance to chat with fellow coach Lisa Kneller, and she shared some insightful strategies for effectively coaching yourself. These are especially helping if you do not have access to an external coach, but can be useful even if you do!

The key to self-coaching lies in asking yourself the right questions--questions that help you uncover your true identity, clarify your life's purpose, and chart a course towards your desired future.

When checking in on your purpose, you want to ask questions like:

  • "Who am I?" (Exploring your identity beyond just your roles and titles.)
  • "What am I doing here?" (Uncovering your purpose and calling.)
  • "Where am I going?" (Visualizing the direction you want to take.)

And when you’re working on your mindset and confidence, it’s important to ask questions like: "Is this thought really true?" to question the validity of your internal narratives. (They can be tricky and sabotage all too easily.)

I won't pretend these are easy questions. Simple, yes, but they dig deep and answering them does require some work. But it's worth it!

Whether you have a coach or not, I highly encourage you to start incorporating these self-coaching strategies into your life. If you’d like to hear more about these questions and how to approach them, I welcome you to check out podcast episode #238.

As you try these out, remember, the most effective self-reflection comes from cultivating curiosity (leaving judgment out of it) and being open to discovering new versions of yourself. Who will you be and where will you be going in 2025? I'd love to know!

If you love the idea of reflecting, but it feels like more than you can DIY, I'm here for guidance and accountability and offer a variety of flexible coaching packages to help. (See below for a great starter package with a special VIP price for you. And be sure to check out the COACHING page of the Positively Productive website for other options.)

Wishing you a season of joy and reflection that includes appreciation for all you are and all you do,

Lisa

Reader Many people think journaling is about reflection. Deep thoughts. Emotional processing. Meaningful insights. And while journaling can absolutely serve those purposes, it can also function as something much simpler and far more practical: A thinking tool. When your brain feels crowded with ideas, concerns, options, and internal debates, the challenge usually isn’t a lack of clarity. It’s cognitive noise. Journaling helps by moving thoughts out of working memory and into a visible space...

Reader One of the hardest things I see clients struggle with is this: Wanting something different, without wanting to blow up their whole life. Many of us were taught to be grateful, resilient, and strong…even when the version of success we’re living no longer fits. That tension between “I should be fine” and “I don’t feel fine” is at the heart of why the Beyond Corporate Burnout Summit exists. This free 3-day virtual summit brings together thoughtful conversations around burnout, boundaries,...

Reader We tend to believe clarity must come before we take action...that we should fully understand, feel certain, and have everything figured out before taking action. And while that sounds logical, it’s often the very belief that keeps us stuck. If you’ve ever found yourself circling a decision, replaying possibilities, or waiting for clarity that never quite arrives, consider this possibility: You may not be missing clarity. You may be missing data. Forward movement (even imperfect,...
