2025 Recap: My Favorite Productivity Tips for Real Life

Reader

As this year winds down, I’ve been reflecting on what 2025 asked of so many of us and on the conversations we had on the Positively Living® Podcast as result.

2025 was a year that required flexibility, resilience, and a lot of effort even when things felt heavy or uncertain. And because of that, it became increasingly clear that traditional productivity advice (do more, push harder, optimize everything) just doesn’t work for real life.

Instead of chasing more output, this year kept pointing us back to something simpler and more sustainable.

If you want productivity that actually supports your life, here are seven lessons that kept coming up again and again in 2025:

  1. Productivity has to work for real life, not ideal conditions
  2. Your nervous system plays a role in focus, energy, and follow-through
  3. Well-designed systems matter more than motivation or willpower
  4. Doing less—intentionally—is often the most productive move
  5. Shame blocks progress; compassion creates clarity
  6. Presence matters just as much as output
  7. Small, supportive steps lead to meaningful change over time

These ideas aren’t about fixing yourself or overhauling your life. They’re about creating support that meets you where you are, especially in seasons when capacity is limited.

In this week’s episode, I share ore details on these reflections as a gentle year-end recap and connect them to specific conversations (episodes) we’ve had throughout the year, so you can revisit what resonates when you want. To make it easy for you to find all the episodes, I created a 2025 Recap Playlist.

Reader If you’ve ever thought to yourself: “What’s wrong with me?”“Everyone else seems to manage this. Why can’t I?”“I just need more discipline.” You’re not alone. These thoughts are incredibly common, especially when life is challenging. The problem is, when we repeat these thoughts, we get used to them. And they sound reasonable (or at least normal) to us because we are taught to push hard, expect more, and assume we are the only ones challenged. But what if this inner dialogue is quietly...

Reader Today’s email is a celebration, because the Positively Living® Podcast just hit 300 episodes!! That number is exciting on its own with only about 1.79% of podcasters reaching this point. If you want support that actually fits, consider these ten reminders: Productivity is personal, not universal. Fluctuating energy is normal....
