How the pursuit of happiness protects your mental health...

Hi Reader

Have you ever thought, “I just want to be happy”?
We’ve all said it at some point (or thought it at least) especially in seasons when stress feels relentless. But what does happiness really mean?

How do we find happiness when life feels anything but light?

That’s the heart of this week’s episode of the Positively Living® Podcast, where I revisit an earlier and incredibly meaningful conversation with happiness coach and author Julie Leonard.

When we first spoke, the world was still deep in pandemic stress, but what Julie shared then is even more relevant now: happiness isn’t about pretending everything’s fine. Happiness is about cultivating resilience, managing stress, and creating balance in the middle of life's challenges.

If you want to reconnect with your sense of happiness, especially when life feels heavy, consider these ideas:

  • Protect your energy. Notice what drains you and give yourself permission to step back.
  • Shift your mindset. Replace “I’ll be happy when…” with “What brings me peace right now?”
  • Declutter what doesn’t serve you. Simplifying your environment supports a calmer mind.
  • Make space for joy on purpose. Happiness grows in moments you intentionally create.

When we treat happiness as a daily practice rather than a destination, we strengthen our mental health and our productivity.

If this resonates, start by exploring what brings you joy. The Positively Productive Toolkit includes my Joy List exercise, a simple and uplifting way to rediscover what lights you up and design your own self-care guide.

Thank you, truly, for listening and for doing this work alongside me. Sharing these ideas, and encouraging you to make space for what matters most, is one of the things that makes me happiest.

With gratitude,

Lisa

Hi Reader Ever hit that point where you just can’t keep up anymore, no matter how organized you try to be? Maybe you’ve got the planners, the color-coding, and the apps all set, but it's still too much. The math just isn’t mathing. You’re exhausted, overextended, and wondering what changed. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Most of us start out being able to “do it all.” We have the energy, the drive, and maybe even the validation that comes from handling so much. Plus we’re taught,...

Hi Reader Have you ever noticed how many men you love seem to struggle in silence? They hold it together, power through, and push their feelings down, because that’s what they’re taught to do. But that kind of “strength” comes at a cost. As a wife and mom of sons, I see it up close. And as a coach who’s now certified in Mental Health First Aid, I know how urgently we need to change the story we tell about what it means to be strong. We’ve made incredible progress in the conversation around...
