You’re not bad at decisions, you’re tired...

Have you ever noticed that it’s not the doing that wears you out, it’s the deciding?

Deciding what to work on.
Deciding what matters most.
Deciding what to say yes to…and what to let go of.

When you’re already tired, overwhelmed, caregiving, or stretched thin, even simple choices can feel exhausting. And that’s not a personal failing, it’s a sign of decision fatigue.

Consider this: You don’t need to push yourself make better or more decisions; you need to make fewer of them, selectively and intentionally.

That’s where simple filters come in. If you want to reduce decision fatigue and protect your energy, you need to:

  • Decide once, not repeatedly.
Tools like a "Word of the Year" or theme days work because they remove the need to start from scratch every time a choice comes up.
  • Match choices to your real life.
Your season of life and your energy matter. Decisions feel lighter when they reflect your actual capacity, not an idealized version of you.
  • Let values guide action, quietly.
When your choices align with what truly matters to you, confidence and clarity follow. You can determine what matters to you ahead of time and make those choices easier.

Simple filters help you move forward with less friction and more ease, especially important when you’re tired.

I explore this idea more deeply in this week’s podcast episode, where I share five of my favorite low-cognitive-load filters and how to use them without turning them into another system to manage.

Decisions can be challenging, especially when life feels like too much, but you can make choices with ease and clarity, one small filter at a time.

Thanks for choosing to be here with me. I'm grateful for you. As the year comes to a close, may one of your easiest decisions be to treat yourself with kindness and appreciation.

Reader Every December seems to come with the same message: Push harder. Finish strong. Get it all done before the year ends. But if you’re feeling stretched thin right now between projects, deadlines, holiday logistics, and the mental load of “wrapping up” the year, you're in good company. This season is a challenge for all of us, but how we approach it can make or break it. But here's the thing: Finishing strong shouldn’t mean finishing exhausted. In fact, research shows the opposite....

Reader This is your friendly “final week” reminder about the Holiday Accountability Special. The deadline is approaching! If you’ve been meaning to get support, but you’re also the kind of person who’s too overwhelmed to schedule more help…this offer was made for you. Because accountability should make your life easier, not heavier. Why accountability works (especially when life is a lot) Most of us don’t struggle because we don’t care. We struggle because we’re carrying too much, juggling...

Reader Have you ever noticed how rushing makes everything harder? The more overwhelmed you feel, the faster you try to move; but somehow you end up making mistakes, forgetting things, or feeling even more behind. It’s not because you’re disorganized or “bad at productivity.” It’s because your brain literally can’t function at full capacity in a stressed, hurried state. And here’s the part we’re never taught: Slowing down is often the thing that helps you go faster. We resist it because hustle...
