How to trust yourself to make the right choice...

Hi Reader

Have you ever had that tug-of-war moment when your gut tells you one thing but your brain immediately questions it?

You weigh every possibility, overanalyze each outcome, and end up more confused than when you started.

That second-guessing isn’t a failure of decision-making, it’s often a symptom of disconnection from self-trust. When we’re overwhelmed, exhausted, or swimming in other people’s expectations, our intuition gets buried under the noise.

If you want to strengthen self-trust and make clearer choices, consider the following:

  1. Pause before deciding. Step back from urgency—intuition needs quiet to be heard.
  2. Notice your body’s cues. Sometimes your gut literally speaks through tension or calm.
  3. Release the idea of “perfect.” Trust grows when we allow mistakes to be teachers, not proof of failure.
  4. Reflect on past wins. Each time your instincts were right, you built evidence you can trust yourself again.

When we practice listening inward, we stop outsourcing our decisions and start creating a life that fits.

In this week’s re-release of the Positively Living Podcast, I revisit a conversation with Gwen Austin from 4 years ago about how to trust your gut to make the right choice and listening back, it still feels incredibly relevant today. I also share how this connects with another episode with Valerie Friedlander on letting go of shame and rebuilding self-trust.

Reader Are you ending your workdays feeling drained despite what you accomplish...somehow feeling like you're still not doing enough? I recently coached Naomi Lerman, a trauma-informed mindset coach and a high-achieving mom, and she hit on a truth I see often with clients: we may seem successful outwardly, but if our schedule is fueling a feeling of internal failure, we are sabotaging ourselves and headed toward burnout. Naomi, like so many I know, had too much to do and too little time,...

Reader Have you ever looked at your to-do list and felt overwhelmed before you even started? That tight, pressured feeling isn’t because you’re unproductive or bad at organizing. It’s because you're working from the wrong kind of list in the first place. (And you're not alone. Most of us are.) We’re taught to write everything down so we don’t forget… but what we end up with is a jumble of obligations, ideas, guilt triggers, and outdated tasks that feels more like a junk drawer than a clarity...

Reader Have you ever noticed how gratitude phrases about being grateful are everywhere from coffee mugs, to Instagram posts, and especially for November décor? You can't turn around in a TJMaxx without seeing a "grateful thankful blessed" sign! And while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, I wonder if that makes the concept so familiar we forget how powerful it really is. Gratitude isn’t just a feel-good sentiment. It’s a scientifically proven habit that rewires your brain for joy....
