Your Schedule Needs *This* for the Best Time Management

Do you ever feel like you’re jumping from one thing to the next, barely catching your breath? You’re not alone! I know how that feeling and that tendency to push through, barely coming up for air. I see it in my clients and myself. (I'm not immune!)

This overwhelm comes from feeling like you have to maximize every minute, but there is an essential part of what you do with your time that has a huge impact of what you make of it: how you move between the things you do.

It's the moments “in between” what we do that can often be what make us most productive.

Transitions of any length, like a deep breath, a quick stretch, or even just pausing to sip some water, seem like nothing, but make a huge difference in how you feel and how you show up. Transitions between tasks (and bigger events too) help your brain reset, reduce stress, and boost your focus.

This week on the Positively Living® Podcast, I share why transitions matter and nerd out with science and examples. The topics include:

  • Why rushing from task to task drains your energy
  • The science behind your nervous system and why it needs time to shift
  • What happens when you skip transitions (spoiler: it’s not pretty)
  • How to use micro-transitions and buffer time to protect your focus
  • Simple rituals that cue your brain it’s time to shift

One simple way to transition from one task to the next is breathing.

Breathing is something we do to live and while it sounds simple and any breath will help, deep breathing in a specific, repeated way is key. Allow me to guide you with a free audio! My Two-minute Transition Meditation is a quick, simple, guided meditation that you can use even if you have never meditated before.

🎧 Grab the free transition meditation audio here for a calming audio reset you can use between tasks, meetings, or even moods.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, please remember that you don’t need to hustle harder. Working smarter includes so many things we talk about here (energy, priorities, values, styles) and better transitions are part of that.

Here's to focusing on those things that make a real difference in your productivity and happiness,

Lisa

Hi Reader Do you ever feel like you’re running around all day just putting out fires? You end the day exhausted, but when you look back, the most important things still aren’t done. That constant cycle of urgency keeps you reacting instead of intentionally choosing what matters. The fix: prioritizing. The reason: if everything is urgent, then nothing is urgent. Without a clear way to prioritize, you’ll always feel behind. When it comes to how to prioritize, there are many ways to decide what...

Hi Reader When you hear the word mindfulness, do you think of sitting perfectly still for 30 minutes, following a guided meditation on an app, or finding total silence (which isn’t exactly realistic in a busy household)? We’re led to believe that a mindfulness practice is this BIG thing, when in reality it’s the little things that bring us present (the little things that are already part of our routine). Mindfulness can happen in the smallest, simplest routines you already have in place, with...

Hi Reader Have you ever felt like the small steps you take toward your goals just aren’t enough? It's understandable when you can't see results right away. Here’s what I’ve learned: it’s the little things we do, day after day, that truly create lasting change. The hardest part is trusting the process. In my latest podcast episode, I dive into the power of small, consistent actions. Inspired by books like The Slight Edge, The Compound Effect, and Atomic Habits, I share how these tiny choices...
