Break Free from the Urgency Trap by Asking Yourself This

Reader

Ever feel like you're constantly running but never actually getting anywhere? If your days are filled with putting out fires until you’re burnt, read on...

As a parent, caregiver, and multi-passionate entrepreneur, I've lived the "everything is urgent" nightmare and it’s a huge part of why I do what I do and coach how I coach. If you're hoping there's a better way, you're right!

Most people who are drowning in tasks are mistaking "loud" for "important" or "urgent". But what if I told you that most of what feels urgent isn't actually so? One of the things clients say to me is that it’s “all urgent” and I know it can feel that way, but you need to ask yourself this simple question that will change the game: “Whose urgent is it?”
Before we let the overflowing to-do list manage us, we need to find out where those tasks came from, if they belong, and if so, in what order they really need to be done. When we ask those questions, we prioritize in a way that helps us selectively and intentionally choose what to do.

In my latest podcast re-release, I revisit the question of what to do when everything in life feels urgent and break down the Eisenhower Matrix - a game-changing prioritization method that helps you. This method is a tool and a mindset shift. By categorizing tasks into four critical quadrants (urgent/important, not urgent/important, urgent/not important, not urgent/not important), you can:

✅ Focus on high-impact work

✅ Eliminate time-wasting activities

✅ Stop being a perpetual firefighter

✅ Regain control of your professional and personal life

Have you heard of it? Have you tried it? I'd be curious to know your experience with it.

Remember: The most successful people aren't the busiest—they're the most strategic.

Productivity doesn't have to feel impossible or pressured. Stick with me and I'll help you find your way.

Reader There is so much that affects our productivity, especially stress. It's why I studied to receive a stress management certification in 2020 (wild timing, huh?) We talked about ways to reduce stress response last week, but what if I told you there’s a nerve in your body that’s your ultimate stress-fighting ally? In my latest podcast episode #257 I’m breaking down everything you need to know about the Vagus Nerve, a hidden stress-regulation system that you can strengthen and stimulate to...

Reader As someone who's navigated overwhelm as an entrepreneur, caregiver, and mom, I've discovered that managing stress isn't about eliminating it completely—it's about building resilience and creating sustainable strategies. When we apply stress-reducing habits to our regular routine, they can make a world of difference. In episode 256 of the Positively Living Podcast, I share these simple (and fun) stress-reduction tips: 1️⃣ Get Moving: Exercise isn't about being an athlete; it's about...

Reader If you have a messy home you're exhausted trying to conquer, chances are it’s not just you who made it that way. I have heard from so many clients and friends that they could have an organized home if they lived alone! We often say things like this and laugh it off, but deep inside we're conflicted, so I wanted to get to the heart of the matter. We did so in last week’s podcast episode. I sat down with Crystal Nerpel, author of “Loving Your Home,” and we got very real about home...
