Five Energizing Habits to Make You More Productive

Reader

Are you feeling drained and struggling to stay productive, despite scheduling and making lists and doing all the time management things you’re supposed to do? The key may lie in managing your energy levels, not just your time.

As a holistic productivity coach, I've seen how our overall well-being impacts our ability to be productive. That's why I believe energy management is more important than time management for sustainable productivity, especially for those facing challenges like chronic illness or caregiving, and who approach things differently, like my fellow multi-passionates or those who have ADHD. Consider this:

Time management only focuses on organizing your schedule. Energy management considers your fluctuating physical and mental energy levels throughout the day, which play a huge part in how you show up to do the things on your calendar and todo list. Understanding the part that energy plays in your life is important. And protecting that energy, or even increasing it, is even more important.

I explain all of this in more detail in episode 249 of the Positively Living® Podcast where I offer 5 key habits to maximize your energy and boost your productivity. Here’s a summary:

  1. Prioritize Rest - Rest is essential for refueling and recharging. It can come in many forms, from a good night's sleep to a few minutes of quiet meditation. Think of what helps you recover mentally and physically.
  2. Nourish Yourself - Pay attention to how different foods affect your energy and focus. Optimizing your nourishment can help you achieve a flow state. And remember that not everything we ingest is food. What nourishes you as a whole person, physically, spiritually, and mentally?
  3. Creative Exploration - Activities you enjoy, like painting, writing, or even dancing, can energize you and spark new ideas. Have you noticed how doing something you love can help you troubleshoot and innovate?
  4. Incorporate Movement - Taking walks, gentle stretching, or even pacing while brainstorming can release endorphins and help you stay focused. It's good for circulation and good for a change of pace!
  5. Reward Yourself - Celebrating your accomplishments, no matter how small, reinforces positive behavior and keeps you motivated. This is not just what you deserve after you achieve, it's a great way to keep yourself going when you're working toward a goal.

By prioritizing energy management, you can create a more sustainable and vibrant life. Start implementing these habits today and see how your productivity and overall well-being improve.

There are so many things we don’t think of as productive, like rest and self-care. Instead, try to think of anything that boosts your energy as good for productivity!

What will you try first? I'd love to know!

Here’s to managing energy and living fully,

In my latest podcast episode #257 I’m breaking down everything you need to know about the Vagus Nerve, a hidden stress-regulation system that you can strengthen and stimulate to...

Reader If you have a messy home you're exhausted trying to conquer, chances are it’s not just you who made it that way. I have heard from so many clients and friends that they could have an organized home if they lived alone! We often say things like this and laugh it off, but deep inside we're conflicted, so I wanted to get to the heart of the matter. We did so in last week’s podcast episode. I sat down with Crystal Nerpel, author of “Loving Your Home,” and we got very real about home...
